Wine Class w/Nikaline Hybrid Grape Varietals And Their Importance For The Future of Wine

  • Vessel & Vine 4 Pleasant Street Brunswick, ME, 04011 United States (map)

All “classic” grape varieties come from the grape species Vitus Vinifera - which is indigenous to Eurasia, but with the onset of globalization and global warming these grapes have been increasingly challenged by disease, changing temperatures, and extreme weather patterns. Beginning in the first part of the 20th century, hybrid grapes (crosses of non Vinifera grape species) have slowly become important players in the future of wine. Come taste through five wines made from hybrid grapes, and learn about the role of these grapes in the past, present and future of winemaking across the world.  And if that sounds like a bunch of technical mambo jumbo, don’t worry, it’s still going to be an opportunity to taste some great wine, eat some food, and learn some good facts for your next social hour…

$45 per person includes sips and snacks, but not tax and gratuity. Call the Vine to sign up!

Brunswick Wine Week 2026! - “Futures”

Nov 9-15

During the second week in November, local restaurants, bars, & wine shops host themed experiences & events, designed to build a connected, local community through the diverse world of wine.

The theme for 2026 is “Futures.”

The wine world is changing, and we are here to talk about it. What does the future of the wine world hold? New generations are taking over legendary houses, there is a global focus on sustainability, and more conscious alcohol consumption is driving interest in smaller formats and packaging that extends shelf life. Additionally, the move away from cork, and the economic impact of importing heavy glass bottles are all contributing to unique alternative packaging approaches.
